Talking, reading, and listening – these are all essential parts of your baby's language development. As your newborn grows, watch for these early language milestones:

  • Reacting to loud sounds

  • Calming down or smiling when spoken to

  • Recognizing your voice and calming down if crying

  • Starting or stopping sucking in response to sound during feeding

  • Cooing and making pleasure sounds

  • Showing a special way of crying for different needs

  • Smiling when he sees you
