Music: Singing and Dancing

Music is part of our everyday lives – from singing to the radio to tapping our fingers to a beat on the couch. Playing music, singing, and dancing are all great ways to have fun with your preschooler while helping his brain grow.

Instructions
  1. Beats, rhythms, and melodies are actually considered mathematical concepts. Have your preschooler tap or clap to the rhythm or beat of the music – it helps your child experience rhythmic patterns through sound and touch.

  2. Sing and dance to music. Don’t worry about your singing and dancing ability – your preschooler just likes that it’s coming from you.  Let your child watch you move to the rhythm of the music and words of the song. Encourage your preschooler to make his own dance moves! Watch as he starts to try to copy you too – the more you do it, the more he’ll try on his own.

  3. Music is also an important part of culture and traditions. Introduce your child to family favorites that represent your culture. As long as it has rhythm and language that is appropriate for a preschooler, playing any type of music is a great activity to engage with your child.

This activity helps your preschooler develop listening skills, visual tracking skills, imitation skills, motor skills, comprehension skills, language, and vocabulary.
