Listening to directions can sometimes be challenging for a toddler. Dancing and music combine to create a fun game that helps your toddler develop and practice those listening skills!
You and your toddler
Music
An open area to dance together
Explain to your toddler that you are going to play music and begin to dance.
As soon as the music stops, everyone has to stop dancing, or “freeze!”
Describe how your child’s body has to be frozen like a statue when the music stops.
Play music (any songs will do!) and dance along with your child.
While your toddler is dancing, stop the music. At first, remind your child to pause by calling out, “Freeze!”
Repeat over and over for endless fun!
This activity helps your toddler develop motor skills, listening skills, and social-emotional skills.
